The Tank 300, a mid-sized SUV from Great Wall Motors, has been making waves in Australia’s off-road scene. Sporting a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with a 9-speed automatic gearbox, it promises a rugged yet refined drive. Its boxy, retro styling is both a blessing and a curse—some find it charming, others a tad too utilitarian. Inside, the cabin is surprisingly tech-savvy, boasting a large touchscreen infotainment system and decent creature comforts.
On the downside, the Tank 300 is a newcomer, which means resale values are a bit of a mystery and service costs could be a gamble—best to check ServiceCentral or Tradingpost for local experiences. Pricing starts around $50,000 AUD new, but used examples might be rarer and pricier than expected. Overall, it’s a bold choice for those wanting off-road capability without the badge snobbery.
