The Tatts Finke Desert Race 2023 was the annual outback dash from Alice Springs to Aputula (Finke) and back—a two-day, roughly 452 km sandblaster for people who consider corrugations a lifestyle choice.

As usual, the weekend ran with prologue on Saturday, Alice-to-Finke on Sunday, and the return leg on Monday over the June long weekend.

Bikes, buggies, trophy trucks and assorted desert missiles pounded a course of whoops, bulldust and dry creek crossings that’s about as cuddly as a croc with a toothache.

If you were spectating, the winning combo was an early start, plenty of water, a decent map, and the patience to obey road closures and station boundaries—locals actually live there, funny that.
