Short answer: under Australia’s Temporary Full Expensing, the asset cost threshold was effectively no cap for eligible new depreciating assets.
It applied to businesses with aggregated turnover under AUD $5 billion, for assets acquired after 6 Oct 2020 and first used or installed ready by 30 June 2023.
Second‑hand assets were generally eligible if turnover was under AUD $50 million; bigger players had to stick to new kit.
Two catches: passenger vehicles were still limited by the ATO’s car cost cap, and the usual exclusions/timing rules lurk in the fine print.
So, no “asset threshold” to crack your noggin on—just eligibility and dates; run it past your tax adviser or the ATO before you go shopping.
