toyota hilux android auto upgrade

Yes, you can give a Toyota HiLux the gift of Android Auto—some came ready, others need a bit of tinkering.

HiLux models from the 2020 facelift onward generally have Android Auto built in; earlier utes usually need either an aftermarket head unit or a smart interface module that adds AA to the factory screen. Expect installed costs roughly in the $600–$1,500 AUD ballpark, depending on brand, speakers, and whether you fancy wireless. With the right CANBUS adapters you can keep steering-wheel controls, factory camera, and parking sensors behaving like civilized citizens. Do use a reputable installer, as messy wiring and cheap knock-offs can introduce noise, dropouts, or void the goodwill in your warranty conversation.

Once fitted, plug in (or pair) and enjoy Google Maps, Spotify, and voice commands—no more juggling a hot phone at the lights like it’s a yabby. Job done, sanity restored.
