toyota vin australia

In Australia, a Toyota’s VIN is basically its passport number—17 characters of cold, hard truth.

You’ll usually find it stamped at the base of the windscreen on the driver’s side, on the driver’s door jamb, and on the compliance plate in the engine bay (it’s also on the rego papers if no one’s lost them).

Common Toyota VIN prefixes include JTD/JTE for Japan-built, MR0 for Thailand-built, and 6T1 for Australian-built older models.

Pop the VIN into a PPSR check to confirm finance owing, write-off, or stolen status, and cross-check the VIN on the car matches the plates and paperwork.

If any digits look tampered with or don’t match across locations, walk away faster than a Prado spots an unsealed road.
