Toyota and Yamaha cooked up a hydrogen-fuelled V8 to prove the old soundtrack doesn’t have to die with petrol.
Based on Toyota/Lexus’s 5.0‑litre 2UR‑GSE, it swaps injectors, heads and fuel delivery to burn compressed hydrogen, targeting around 335 kW and ~540 Nm.
You still get the rorty V8 note (Yamaha even crafted a wild 8‑into‑1 exhaust), but tailpipe CO2 plunges; NOx after‑treatment is still required, so it’s not a magic zero.
Think “rolling lab,” not showroom: it’s experimental tech alongside Toyota’s hydrogen race efforts, not a ute engine you can order next Tuesday.
In short: real engine, real noise, real potential—production plans? Still very much to be decided. Consult official documentation for exact figures.
