trailer brake requirements qld Page 3

In Queensland, trailer brake requirements are as thrilling as watching paint dry, but essential nonetheless. If your trailer has a Gross Trailer Mass (GTM) over 750 kg, it must be fitted with brakes. For trailers over 4.5 tonnes, an electric or hydraulic braking system is mandatory. The braking system must be operational and regularly maintained, or you risk fines and the wrath of the transport police.

Common issues include brake wear, faulty wiring, and inadequate maintenance, which can turn your trailer into a runaway beast. For the most accurate and up-to-date info, consult the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads or ServiceCentral. And if you’re shopping for trailers, places like Tradingpost and CarShowroom might have some suitable options.
