trailer sway Page 18

Trailer sway is the unwanted, side-to-side oscillation of a trailer while towing, often caused by poor weight distribution or external forces like wind. It’s the automotive equivalent of a toddler having a tantrum—annoying and potentially dangerous. Key contributors include incorrect hitch setup and an overloaded or unbalanced trailer. To combat sway, consider installing a weight distribution hitch or sway control devices.

Common issues include:

• Uneven or excessive trailer loading
• Improper hitch height or setup
• High speeds or strong crosswinds
• Worn suspension or tyres on either vehicle
