transfer car online wa Page 5

In WA, you transfer a car online via DoTDirect, which beats queuing at a counter by several light-years. The seller lodges a Notification of Change of Ownership with the buyer’s details and sale date/price, and the buyer logs in to confirm the VIN/plate and odometer, then pays the transfer fee plus vehicle licence duty (based on sale price or market value). Do it within 7 days of sale to avoid late penalties — yes, the clock is louder than your exhaust. You’ll both need DoTDirect accounts, proof of identity, the vehicle licence/VIN, sale price, and a payment card. If there’s finance, sort the payout and release before you hit “submit” unless you like administrative cliffhangers. For odd cases (unlicensed vehicle, interstate import, or company purchases), check the WA Department of Transport’s guidance.
