Transferring a car in Queensland isn’t gladiatorial, but there are rules. The seller should supply a current QLD Safety Certificate (roadworthy) for a registered private sale, and both parties note the VIN, odometer, sale date and price. The buyer then lodges the transfer online with the Queensland Government within 14 days, paying the transfer fee plus vehicle registration duty (based on the dutiable value). Keep the existing CTP insurance with the rego, make sure there’s no finance owing, and remove any toll tags or plates being retained. Miss the deadline and you can cop a late fee—about as fun as parallel parking a ute in a laneway. For exact fees and any exemptions, consult the official QLD documentation.
