Bringing your New Zealand licence into Victoria is mercifully straightforward—no sheep, just paperwork. Within 6 months of becoming a Victorian resident, head to a VicRoads Customer Service Centre with your current NZ licence, proof of identity, and proof of Victorian address, plus a payment card.
Because NZ is a recognised country, holders of a current full NZ licence are generally exempt from the knowledge and drive tests; if your licence is expired, provisional/learner, or there are concerns, tests may be required. You’ll do an eyesight check, have a photo taken, pay the fee, and your NZ licence is usually surrendered as you’re issued a Victorian one. Your licence class will broadly match your NZ entitlements, and off you go—legal and local.
