Buying or selling in Queensland? You need to transfer the vehicle’s registration with the Department of Transport and Main Roads within 14 days, or cop a late fee. You can do it online or in person; bring proof of identity, a receipt or contract of sale, and a current Queensland safety certificate for registered vehicles (plus any personalised plate paperwork if relevant). Expect a transfer fee and motor vehicle duty based on the car’s value and type—no one escapes the taxman. Number plates normally stay with the car in QLD unless they’re personalised. If it all starts feeling bureaucratic, that’s because it is; but once done, you’re legal and ready to motor.
