transfer vehicle registration qld Page 5

Transferring vehicle registration in Queensland is about as thrilling as watching paint dry, but it’s necessary if you’ve just bought or sold a car. You’ll need to complete a Registration Transfer Application and provide proof of identity, the original registration certificate, and a safety certificate if the vehicle is used. The new owner must lodge this within 14 days to avoid fines.

Fees vary but expect to cough up around $40-$50 AUD for the transfer itself, plus any outstanding registration fees. You can sort this at your local Department of Transport and Main Roads office or online if you’re feeling adventurous. For used cars, platforms like Tradingpost or CarShowroom often remind buyers about this chore.

Remember, no transfer means the previous owner might still be on the hook for any parking fines or tolls, so don’t slack off.
