transferring rego from act to nsw Page 7

Moving over the border? To transfer rego from ACT to NSW, get it done within 3 months of becoming a NSW resident or garaging the car there.

Book a NSW Blue Slip inspection (interstate vehicles need one), then sort a NSW CTP Green Slip.

Take your Blue Slip, proof of identity, NSW address, proof of ownership, and ACT rego papers to a Service NSW centre; pay the fees and motor vehicle tax, and you’ll walk out with NSW plates.

Surrender the ACT plates (Service NSW can take them, or return them to Access Canberra), then cancel the ACT rego and chase any refund of the unused portion.

Yes, bureaucracy loves a form, but this one’s survivable—just don’t forget the paperwork.

Rules and costs can change, so confirm details with Service NSW and Access Canberra before you set off.
