turning right at traffic lights victoria Page 8

In Victoria, a normal right turn at traffic lights means enter on a green signal, move to the centre of the intersection, and give way to oncoming traffic and pedestrians.

If a green right arrow appears, you can turn without yielding; a red right arrow means don’t turn, even if the main light is green.

If you’re waiting in the middle and the light turns yellow or red, clear the intersection when safe—don’t camp there like it’s a long weekend.

Only perform a hook turn where signed (common in the Melbourne CBD): use the left lane, enter and wait in the intersection, then complete the right turn on the cross‑street green.

Never block pedestrian crossings or tram tracks, and don’t enter on yellow unless you can’t stop safely.

Yes, trams always win the staring contest, so give them space.
