Hunting a 4x4 tyre size chart? Here’s how to read the runes: 265/70R16 means 265 mm width, 70% aspect, on a 16-inch rim.

Common Aussie 4x4 sizes include 265/65R17, 265/70R16, 265/60R18, and for burlier rigs, 285/75R16—mind guard clearance and your speedo.

Overall diameter ≈ (rim in inches × 25.4) + 2 × (section width × aspect ratio), which tells you if that new rubber will kiss the arches under flex.

Going larger alters gearing, braking and fuel use, and state rules can get tetchy if you exceed legal diameter changes without certification.

When in doubt, check the tyre placard, the owner’s manual, and a tyre shop that actually goes off-road on weekends.
