used car index australia Page 8

In Australia, "used car index" usually means the Datium Insights-Moody's Analytics Used Vehicle Price Index, the ABS used motor vehicles series in the CPI, and big auction guides. They track wholesale and retail moves across segments, so you can tell whether hatchbacks are hot or utes are finally calming down. Pandemic supply chaos sent values skyward; since late 2023 they've been easing toward something resembling normal, with the odd wiggle when supply or rates misbehave. Read them like a pro by checking year-on-year and seasonally adjusted changes, not just one spicy weekly blip. For real-world shopping, pair an index trend with live listings and valuations to see if a specific car is actually good buying - Tradingpost is a handy reality check.
