used car statutory warranty sa Page 9

In South Australia, the statutory warranty for used cars isn't a one-size-fits-all guarantee but rather depends on the vehicle's age and kilometres. Typically, if your used car is under 10 years old and has less than 160,000 km, you might be entitled to a statutory warranty of at least 3 months or 5,000 km, whichever comes first.

This covers major faults that make the car unroadworthy or unsafe. Dealers must provide this warranty, but private sales are exempt, so buyer beware!

• Warranty covers significant mechanical defects
• Excludes wear and tear or damage from misuse
• Applies only if purchased from a licensed dealer
