using phone while driving qld Page 18

In Queensland, if you’re driving—yes, even stopped at the lights—you must not hold your phone, full stop. Open licence drivers may use hands‑free via Bluetooth/voice or a properly mounted cradle, but set it up before you roll and keep your mitts off the screen. Learners and P1 drivers under 25 can’t use a phone at all while driving—no hands‑free, no speaker, and smartwatches count as phones for this rule. Get caught and you’re staring down a fine over $1,000 plus 4 demerit points, and a repeat within 12 months can whack you with 8 points. Phone and seatbelt cameras are watching, so if you must text, park safely out of traffic. Treat it like hot chips in a white shirt: look, don’t touch until you’ve pulled over.
