using your phone while driving Page 4

Using your phone while driving is a spectacularly bad idea that not only annoys every other driver on the road but also massively increases your risk of causing an accident. In Australia, it's illegal to hold or use a mobile phone while driving unless you're using a hands-free system, and fines can be quite hefty, often exceeding $500 plus demerit points. The distraction isn’t just about texting; even hands-free calls can divert your attention. Common issues include delayed reaction times, missed traffic signals, and increased likelihood of rear-end collisions.

• Reduced situational awareness
• Increased reaction time
• Higher chance of collisions

So unless you fancy a court date or worse, keep that phone in your pocket or on a proper hands-free setup. For more local laws and advice, check resources like ServiceCentral.
