ve ss commodore problems

The VE SS Commodore is a belter, but even heroes have weak ankles.

  • Lifter issues on AFM-equipped L77 (Series II) causing tick/rough idle; AFM delete or new lifters common
  • Diff whine and rear wheel bearing noise under load
  • Front control-arm bushes, rear cradle bushes, and strut tops wearing early, leading to clunks and tramlining
  • Power-steering hose leaks and occasional pump groan
  • Oil leaks from rocker covers, sump and rear main
  • Cooling niggles: water pump seep, radiator end tanks, thermostat
  • Auto 6L80E shudder/flare if neglected; manual clutch and dual-mass wear
  • Electrical bits: door lock actuators, window regulators, and HVAC blend doors; weak earths/batteries cause gremlins
  • Brake shudder from cooked rotors and average pads

Regular oil changes and cooling-system TLC help; most woes are age and neglect, not a curse.
