vehicle transfer cost wa

In Western Australia, transferring a vehicle hits you with Vehicle Licence Duty (stamp duty) based on market value, plus a modest transfer/administration fee and, if applicable, a plate fee. The duty uses a sliding scale—roughly about 2.75% up to lower‑value cars, ramping to about 6.5% for higher‑value ones. You’ve got 14 days from purchase to lodge the transfer or you’ll cop a late fee, which is a very WA way of saying “hurry up.” If both parties are eligible you can do it through DoTDirect; otherwise head to a Driver and Vehicle Services centre like it’s 2004. Concessions and special vehicle types (e.g., heavy vehicles) follow different rules, so check before you queue. Keep a copy of the receipt and the seller’s details, because “mate’s rates” don’t impress the duty calculator.
