vehicles for cross country camping trips Page 9

Planning a cross-country camping epic? For the rough stuff, 4WD wagons like a LandCruiser Prado or Pajero Sport give low-range, solid ground clearance and the range for those “last servo 300 km” moments. Dual-cab utes (Hilux, Ranger, D‑MAX) haul big payloads and swallow roof‑top tents and fridges without breaking a sweat. If you’re mostly on formed roads, AWD wagons like a Subaru Outback are lighter, thriftier and still happy on gravel. Van-based setups (HiAce, Staria) turn into studio apartments on wheels, but mind their clearance and traction when the track gets lumpy. Whatever you pick, prioritise recovery points, all‑terrain tyres, a second battery, and enough towing capacity for the camper you actually own—then browse Tradingpost for a sensibly priced, pre‑kitted rig.
