Short version: there’s no special VIC luxury car tax; LCT is a federal sting shared nationwide.
You pay 33% on the portion of a car’s GST-inclusive value above the annual threshold—there are two thresholds: a higher one for fuel‑efficient cars and a lower one for the rest. For 2024–25, think roughly low-$80k for most cars and around low-$90k for fuel‑efficient models; the ATO updates figures every 1 July. In Victoria you’ll also cop motor vehicle duty (stamp duty) and rego—state charges that stack on top, but they’re separate from LCT. Dealers usually roll LCT into the drive‑away price; if you’re importing or doing the maths yourself, ask an accountant before the taxman asks you.
