vicroads rego cancel Page 6

Cancel your rego with VicRoads? Easy enough, assuming you like forms more than brunch.

Remove the number plates and return them to VicRoads, bring valid ID, and lodge a cancellation request; you’re typically eligible for a pro‑rata refund of the remaining term (less fees). If the plates are lost or stolen, you’ll need a police event/reference number instead of handing them over. Got personalised plates? Arrange to retain the rights before cancelling, or they go back too. If you’ve sold the car and the buyer’s keeping it on the road, don’t cancel—transfer the rego instead.
