wa transfer vehicle Page 20

In WA, transferring a vehicle is refreshingly simple: lodge the change of ownership within 14 days or expect a late fee tap on the shoulder.

Seller: submit the disposal notice via DoTDirect immediately and give the buyer a receipt with VIN, sale price and date—no napkin scribbles, thanks.

Buyer: complete the transfer online or at a DoT centre and pay the transfer fee plus vehicle licence duty (based on the higher of sale price or market value).

No routine roadworthy is required for private sales in WA, but DoT can request an inspection if something looks dodgier than a $500 V8. Keep copies of everything and confirm there’s no finance owing before handing over cash.
