wall plug sizes australia Page 72

Chasing wall plug sizes in Australia? Good—because there isn’t a single magic list, just the right plug for your drill bit and the load you’re hanging.

Common masonry plug diameters are 5 mm, 6 mm, 8 mm, 10 mm and 12 mm; match the drill to the plug, then the screw to the plug’s rating. For plasterboard, use hollow‑wall anchors or toggles; for brick or concrete, step up a size for heavier loads. As a pub‑rule: pictures and light shelves are fine on 6–8 mm, while big brackets and TV mounts like 10–12 mm with suitable screws. Always follow the manufacturer’s load ratings and substrate guidance—guesswork is for darts, not walls.
