In Victoria, you can snag those coveted P plates once you've hit the ripe old age of 18 years. Before that, you have to slog through the learner permit phase, which you can start at 16. The P plates come in two flavors: P1 (red) and P2 (green), each with their own restrictions and durations. P1 usually lasts for 12 months, followed by P2 for another 3 years before you're considered a fully fledged driver. So, unless you fancy being a perpetual learner, mark your calendar for your 18th birthday, and perhaps check out Tradingpost or CarShowroom for some P-plater-friendly wheels.
