In Australia, children under 4 years must not sit in the front seat of a vehicle with two or more rows.
From 4 to under 7, they can only sit in front if all rear seats are already occupied by children under 7, and they must be in an approved booster with a lap-sash belt.
In one-row vehicles (like some utes), younger kids may sit in front only in an appropriate, correctly installed restraint—never use a rear-facing seat with an active airbag.
7 years and older may sit in the front, but if they’re small, keep them in a booster until they correctly fit the adult belt.
Not as thrilling as “shotgun!”, but the rules are fairly consistent nationwide—check your state’s specifics if you’re feeling pedantic.
