In plain English, 4x2 means a vehicle with four wheels and two driven wheels.
In cars it’s usually front-wheel drive; in utes and light trucks marked 4x2 it’s typically rear-wheel drive.
Compared with a 4x4, a 4x2 is lighter, cheaper to buy and run, and perfectly fine for tarmac and mild gravel; traction suffers when it gets sloppy, sandy or steep.
If you see 6x4 or 6x6, the same logic applies: first number = wheels (or wheel positions), second = driven wheels.
