what does a centre diff lock do Page 820

A centre diff lock stops the front and rear axles from spinning at different speeds, effectively tying the whole drivetrain together for maximum shove. That’s brilliant on loose stuff—sand, mud, rocky climbs—where wheels like to spin and your pride likes to sink. Engage it and you’ll get better traction and fewer embarrassing recovery stories.

But use it on high-grip surfaces and the drivetrain can wind up like a rubber band, which ends badly for wallets and universal joints. Keep speeds sensible, steering gentle, and save it for slippery or broken terrain. In short: lock for off-road, unlock for tarmac—your tyres and transfer case will thank you.
