Selling a car in Queensland? Right, here’s the no-fuss checklist before the rubber meets the road.
For a registered car, you must have a current Queensland Safety Certificate from an approved inspection station and display it when advertising; hand it to the buyer at sale time.
Complete the transfer of registration (online via TMR or form F3520), and lodge a notice of disposal immediately so any speeding snaps go to the new owner, not you.
Give a proper receipt with VIN, rego, odometer, date, price and both parties’ details, and have ID handy because the bureaucracy loves a name spelled exactly right.
If the car is unregistered, you don’t need a Safety Certificate to sell it, but the buyer will need one (and insurance) to put it back on the road.
Finally, remove your toll tag, sort your insurance and direct debit, and decide whether your personalised plates are going with the car or staying with you.
