when are you allowed to use your horn Page 5

Ah, the car horn—a symphony of urban frustration! In Australia, you're allowed to use your horn primarily to warn other road users of danger. It's not your personal karaoke mic or a tool for expressing road rage.

• Use it to alert someone who might not see you, like a pedestrian stepping out unexpectedly.
• It’s legitimate to warn other drivers of an immediate hazard.
• Not to be used for greeting mates, expressing annoyance, or in stationary traffic jams.

Misuse can get you a fine, and rightly so—no one wants a car horn concerto at 7 am. For more detailed rules, check the local road authority or ServiceCentral.
