Most Mazdas sold in Australia are built in Japan, primarily at Mazda’s Hiroshima (Ujina) and Hofu plants.
Models like the Mazda3, CX-3, CX-30, CX-5, CX-8, CX-60, CX-90 and MX-5 are Japan-sourced, which keeps the fit-and-finish satisfyingly obsessive.
The exceptions: the BT-50 ute is built in Thailand alongside the Isuzu D‑MAX, and many Mazda2 variants for Australia also come from Thailand.
If you want to be certain, check the build/compliance plate or the first digits of the VIN—less mysterious than your mechanic’s “that’ll be extra”.
Supply chains shift now and again, but that Japan/Thailand split covers the vast majority of Aussie-bound Mazdas.
