Hunting your VIN? It’s usually hiding in plain sight at the base of the windscreen, visible from outside on a small plate near the lower corner.
You’ll also commonly find it on the driver’s door jamb or B-pillar, and under the bonnet on the firewall, strut tower, or radiator support; many vehicles have it stamped into the chassis as well.
Motorcycles put it on the steering head; trailers and caravans often stick it on the drawbar or compliance plate.
Your rego papers, insurance certificate, service book, and the owner’s manual list the VIN too—handy if the plate’s dirty or the bonnet’s stuck.
If it’s missing or unreadable, check for a compliance plate and speak to a licensed mechanic or the manufacturer before assuming anything untoward.
