In Queensland, mount your phone in a proper cradle that’s securely fixed to the car—on the dash or low on the windscreen—and never in your hand.
It must not block your view of the road, cover instruments, or sit anywhere an airbag might redecorate it; if it’s in your line of sight, you’ve done it wrong.
Open and P2 licence holders may use hands‑free, Bluetooth or GPS while driving if the phone is mounted; Learners and P1 drivers under 25 can’t use a phone at all, even hands‑free.
Don’t touch or pick up the thing while moving or stopped at lights—park safely out of traffic if you must poke it.
Set your nav and playlists before rolling, use voice controls, and keep the mount within easy reach so you’re not fishing around like a pelican.
Do that and you’ll keep the fines—and the lecture from your passenger—to a minimum.
