which problems do turbo ford focus 2012 might have

Looking at a 2012 turbo Ford Focus—likely the ST—good choice, but keep your eyes open under the bonnet. They’re punchy, but a decade on the weak spots start to wave like pit flags.

• Carbon build-up on intake valves (direct injection) causing rough idle and hesitation
• Intercooler heat soak and boost leaks from ageing hoses or clamps
• Worn engine mounts leading to vibration and wheel hop
• Clutch wear and gearbox synchro grumbles on hard-driven manuals
• Ignition coils and spark plugs misfiring under boost
• Cooling system leaks from hoses or the expansion bottle

If it’s a non‑ST Focus, the infamous Powershift DCT drama doesn’t apply here; the turbo ST is a 6‑speed manual, but service history still matters.

Get a pre‑purchase inspection, scan for codes, and budget for fresh plugs, coils and mounts—small money that saves big drama.
