why does it take so long to transfer money Page 145

Bank transfers dawdle for a few reasons: some banks still batch payments, so if you miss the daily cut-off it waits overnight—and weekends/public holidays add more snooze time.

In Australia, Osko/NPP payments are near-instant, but only if both banks support it; otherwise it falls back to standard transfers that can take 1–3 business days.

Large or unusual amounts can trigger fraud checks or manual reviews, delaying things, and international SWIFT transfers often take 2–5 business days plus time-zone faffing.

Typos in the payee’s details, name mismatches, or sending after the bank’s cut-off all add friction—like towing a caravan with the handbrake on.
