wind back odometer Page 5

Short version: winding back an odometer is illegal in Australia and a one-way ticket to fines, criminal charges, and a reputation only your dog will tolerate. Don’t do it, and don’t buy from anyone who hints at it.

If you’re worried a car’s been fiddled with, look for tell-tales:

• Service books and PPSR history that don’t match the displayed kilometres.
• Wear on pedals, seats and steering wheel that screams more km than the dash claims.
• Digital error codes or cluster replacement notes with suspicious timing.

Stick to reputable sellers (Tradingpost included), get a pre-purchase inspection, and walk away if the story smells like last week’s bait.
