world car of the year 2023 Page 9

The 2023 World Car of the Year crown went to the Hyundai Ioniq 6, the swoopy electric sedan that looks like an art deco teardrop did a degree in aerodynamics. It didn’t just win; it hoovered up trophies, also taking World Electric Vehicle and World Car Design of the Year. In Australia, the Ioniq 6 launched with single- and dual-motor variants, brisk performance, and long-range battery options, proving you don’t need a V8 to feel smug at the lights. Expect local pricing from roughly the mid-$70k to high-$80k before on-roads, depending on trim. Now if only the charging queues moved as quickly as the car does.
