The 2003 Nissan Patrol (GU/Y61) is a bush-basher with a few quirks—worth knowing before you punt cash and ego into the scrub.

• Early 3.0 Di diesels had a reputation for overboost and soot buildup leading to piston failures; by 2003 many updates landed, but proof of fixes and sensible tuning still matters.
