As well as its natural sheen, it is strong, resistant to pilling, and the long fibres make it easy to spin. It looks stunning when dyed and blends beautifully with other fibres. Soap Making: The main reason to add mulberry silk to soap is for the smooth, silky feeling it imparts on the skin. The silk fibres dissolve in strong alkali and turn into natural silk proteins, which give soap a noticeably silkier, smoother feel and better glideSilky Texture:

• Use about 0.51 gram of silk per 1 kg of oils.
• Add your silk fibres to the distilled water.
• Then slowly add NaOH to the water (never water to lye).
• Silk will go from visible fibres cloudy clear/slightly milky.
• Cool lye solution to your usual soaping temperature.
• Make soap as normal.
