Be at least 16, complete PrepL (or pass the written road-rules test), then head to a Transport and Main Roads centre with ID and the fee for an eyesight check and photo.
Once it’s issued, slap on L plates and drive only with a qualified supervisor in the passenger seat.
If you’re under 25, log 100 hours including 10 at night; if you’re 25+, the logbook requirement doesn’t apply.
Keep it current, follow the restrictions, and when you’ve got the hours and confidence, book the practical test and do your best not to kerb the tyre.
