Without doubt the most desired Bimota is the DB1; The DB1 was the first Bimota designed to use a Ducati engine. Originally commissioned by Cagiva, the DB1 was designed by Bimota’s Technical Director, and ex-Ducati engineer, Dr. Frederico Martini, and it saved Bimota from almost certain bankruptcy. Being the first “all Ital Bimota”, the DB1 holds premium position as the must-have Bimota for collectors and enthusiasts around the world.

Only 400 Db1’s were manufactured between 1985 and 1987, after which the factory introduced a higher specification model designated the DB1SR, which was an even higher performance version of Ducati’s beautiful 750 engine with more radical cam shafts. Other upgrades included 4-piston gold series Brembo front callipers, 41 mm carburettors, and a better breathing 2-into-1 exhaust. Only 153 DB1RS were produced between 87 and 89, and most were raced by a host of famous riders including Davide Tardozzi, Sir Alan Cathcart, Dale Quarterley, Johnny Virgadamo, plus many more. The DB1 can be compared to Ducati’s range of 750 F1 upgraded race replica’s, Laguna Seca/Montjuich/Santa Monica.

The last known DB1 to sell in the USA changed hands at the 2015 Bonhams Vegas auction and attracted a price of $30k USD + buyer’s premium. Despite being 5 years ago, and all collectibles having increased in value since, at today’s exchange rate that’s circa $45k + another 7.5kAU for shipping and taxes!  This particular example is unrestored and has perfect patina for a bike with a fraction over 4,000k’s on the clock.  This DB1 has sat idle on display for many year and will need a full service & fluids changed before starting.
