1972 Honda XL250 KO Motosport SOLD 2020


The Honda Motosport 250 XL250 was sold between 1972 and 1973, and was available in one colour only, Custom Silver Metallic. The fuel tank, guards, and headlight shell were silver while the fuel tank stripes and fender stripes were red. The “MOTOSPORT 250” muffler emblem was red and white, and the side cover was black without emblems. The engine was a 248cc 4-stroke OHC 4-valve single cylinder with a 5-speed transmission. Identifying genuine Motosport’s is made easier by the frame serial number begining with XL250-1000049, while the engine serial number began with SL250E-1000001 rather than XL — which shows its relation to the Motosport series..

Sellers comments: This bike is original 1972 Honda XL250 K0 motorsport, immaculate, and rare in this condition. This bike has been in our collection and it is almost perfect (someone added a Mercedes ‘250’ badge to the air box), this is a visually and mechanically an excellent bike, it is a joy to admire and ride.

The first XL250 Motosport are the K0, they were made 1972 and 1973, the Frame and Engine numbers suggest 1972, the Exhaust muffler cover suggests 1973, all K0 are the same except for the head/barrel which changed three times over the two years and this one has never needed engine work, so there is no way to accurately identify if it is 1972 or 1973, I suspect it is a 1972 with a 1973 Muffler shield.
