This ultra-light mountain goat is a top of the range Limited Edition Canadian Cervelo R5 VWD with blue Argile stripes that has been built up in 2014 with a Shimano Dura Ace 9000 11speed groupset and FSA compact 50/34 rankset with a 12/28 climbing cassette, 3T Dorico LTD carbon seat post, 3T stem, RavX carbon bars and FSA carbon headset. The wheels are Fulcrum Racing 5 (bike can be sold with 2014 Fulcrum Racing Zero wheels for +600) and the seat is a Selle Italia SLS Comfort Fit saddle. 2 bottle cages are also included in the sale. Please note the frame is the 2012 R5 VWD Limited Edition that retailed at 4900 USD and R&A Cycles have one left on sale for 2499 USD (3300 AUD) for just the frame! Frame was sold and built up in 2014. This bike is superlight and in perfect working order with a few cosmetic signs of use.
The frame size is 58cm and suitable for riders of 180 to 190cm or 5ft11 to 6ft3.
Not many manufacturers have the history and portfolio, or put as much resource into race-level bike manufacturing, as Toronto-based Cervlo. For 2014, the R5 has borrowed technical know-how from the design work that went into the RCA. The difference is, the R5Õs technology has been applied in a more cost-effective way.
The R5 sits on the second spot of CerveloÕs R range with the RCA taking top spot, however with a price tag of 12.000 dollars just for the frame these are very rare and even the Cervelo sponsored teams ride the R5. The R series has been designed to be light weight, easy handling, comfortable riding but mainly climbing! The new R5 has more aero tubing and a stiffer bottom bracket simply meaning less energy wasted on beating the wind and flexing the frame!
With a Dura Ace 9000 11speed groupset as ridden by most teams in the Tour the France, no corners have been cut! The crank is a FSA Gossamer 50/34 compact crank with 175 mm crank arms and the cassette is 12/28 climbing cassette making this bike suitable for any terrain, from the flats to the Alps!
The Fulcrum Racing 5 wheels are decent training wheels, being reliable and not overly heavy (like the racing 7Õs). They come with a set of Vittoria Rubino tires.
The R5 is simply one of the lightest production frames on the market and it certainly is one of the very best climbing bikes you could possibly get! Built up with a Shimano Dura Ace 9000 11speed groupset and being in great condition this bike represents fantastic value for money! Current price online is 9000 Au dollar so going for an amazing price! Why buy an entry level bike if you can ride a Pro Tour grade frame with top end 11speed group?
