In Queensland, transferring ownership is less thrilling than a school-zone overtake, but here’s the drill.
The seller must supply a current Safety Certificate (RWC) for any registered light vehicle before sale, then both parties lodge the transfer with TMR within 14 days (online or at a service centre).
The buyer pays the transfer fee and vehicle registration duty based on the sale price and vehicle category, and will need ID, rego number, odometer, sale date and address.
If it’s unregistered, you’re not transferring—you’re applying for new rego, so bring patience and paperwork.
Miss the deadline and late fees nibble your wallet; do it right and the only drama is remembering where you parked.
