1936 Moto Guzzi GTS

Moto Guzzi was founded Carlo Guzzi, Giorgio Parodi, and Giovanni Ravelli. Unfortunately Ravelli was killed in a plane crash only days after WW1, and company’s logo was created in memory of Ravelli.

The greatest of all Guzzi models are based on only two engines formats. The first a 500cc four stroke single that has its cylinder running parallel with the ground, the rest are of course the now traditional 90° V-Twin. The single engine was first produced in 1920 and stayed in production in various forms until 1976.

This particular Moto Guzzi is one of the first produced, the 500cc GTS, which as a model was produced between 1934 and 1940. A four speed transmission with opposing valve cylinder head, records show this actual bike was completed on the 23rd of November, 1936, and first sold to Ministry of Interior in Rome, 11 January 1937.

Checking with official records at the Guzzi factory in Mandello confirms the engine and frame number are correct and original: Engine S 33498, Frame 6053.

The bike appears to be in perfect original patina, although given the passage of time there is no way of actually confirming or denying that any restorative work has been performed at some time through-out its 80 year life. The battery is missing, and the engine hasn’t been started for almost a decade. Current owner states it was running when garaged, and there is good engine compression, so confirmation of it running will be performed prior to purchase. The bike has ASI certification.
