1981 Ducati Pantah 500 Racer

Starting life as a road going 500, this spectacular bike was built by one of the Austral Ducati racing legends, Mike Soderland, owner of Ducati. This bike produces around 70Hp and weighs in at only 145kgs.

Using a # 350 crank, balanced and chemically polished at the F1 car company in , the engine mods result in a 50mm stroke and 80mm bore, thus ensuring complce with Period 5 racing regs. The entire build was performed with a ‘no expense’ attitude; Carillo rods and Pistons, 900ss cams, bigger valves, heads ported and flowed to suit the larger valves, hydraulic clutch with carbon fibre plates, and a close ratio gear box that has been strengthened to eliminate racing concerns.

Silent Hetik ignition, Gelli race muffler modified for the increase in output, lightweight exhaust flanges, lightweight aluminium foot pegs and rear sets. The stock frame was strengthened and braced, 38 mm Marzocchi forks with 280mm rotors and larger callipers, and Boer adjustable rear springs.

The build is complimented with freshly painted NCR Body Work. A truly fabulous looking bike that could, if required, be returned to street use.

Racing achievements after current owners 25 year hiatus from racing:

1)    Finished 12th outright in field of 52 bikes at BSFOS

2)    5th in BSFOS P5 500 after missing one wet race

3)    Finished 2nd in 2016 PCRA Period 5 – 500cc (competed only 4 of 5 rounds)

4)    Finished 2nd in the 2016 PCRA Period 5 – 750cc (competed only 4 of 5 rounds)

5)    Finished 4th in NZ trans-Tasman series against TT2 600 juniors and TZ 350’s
